MOTO by Alberto García-Alix

58,00 €

Tears of emotion. Epic fumes. Ashes… The bones of a modern centaur.
Adventurers. outlaws. Loners. Crazy people, riding machines, switching gears, accelerating… Joy!… An endlessness seized on the go. The roar of the engines… Their fierce expressionism. The beating of a visual imagery enveloping the bike…
In his own words: Intoxicated by the smell of gasoline and castor oil. Forty-seven years since I first rode a motorcycle… How many kilometres I’ve ridden! Seven hundred thousand? Maybe more. At my age you do the math and you add and divide. If I got a second of my past life for every ten mosquitoes I ate, the total amount would be enough to restore me from top to bottom. I’d burn my bridges again…

The book consists of two parts: the first, in matte paper, gathers images from 1975 –including the first photograph ever that Alberto García-Alix took during a motocross race in which his brother participated– to 2007; the second part of the book, on glossy paper, includes a new block of unreleased photographs, with which the author, seeking its limits, initiates a renewed photographic discourse on the bike, by the more abstract and allegorical use of the image.

It is, in short, a set of photographs that transport the beauty and care with which García-Alix has portrayed his life tied to the bike.
In the center of the book, accompanying the images, there is an autobiographical text in which Alberto García-Alix tells a bunch of experiences and stories, told as only a true biker can do, that leaves the reader wanting to pull a wheelie and  to become intoxicated by the smell of castor oil and the roar of engines ".
